VOICE: Phone registered but no dial tone?
Wed, Oct 19 2011 07:55
Another quick fix to a simple problem. I registered a 7960 to my CME 4.1 router (2621XM). The phone checked out as registered and the screen on the phone was fine.
Here is the output from 'show ephone'. You can see there are two other phones UNREGISTERED but the 7960 is REGISTERED. I see that the firmware on the phone is newer than the server version...but hopefully that's backward compatible. Please forgive the screenshot - it was taken AFTER i got it working and therefore shows the result...read on.
One the 7960 when I pick up the phone there is no dial-tone. When I press the 'SPEAKER' button I get no dial tone. When I dial a number....I get no dial-tone.
Here is the basic CME configuration for the ephone. I created this manually but actually when you power on the phone if it registers correctly (DHCP/TFTP) then it will self-register. The part of the configuration I was missing was the 'button1:3' line. Without this the phone has no way of knowing it's directory number. The button command assigns the line to the phone and is necessary. On a phone with lots of buttons (7960/7940) or one with none (7905) the button command 'button 1:3' would mean that button 1 i.e. YOU or THIS PHONE is attached to ephone-dn (directory number) 3 which is line 500.
Here is the configuration for the directory number of the phone (the number it calls from and to)
With the button command in it started working immediately.
